Petit Verdot is a late-ripening variety that benefits from abundant sunshine and warmth, both of which were plentiful along the upper bench of our Dynamite Block in 2018. Under these ideal conditions, our Petit Verdot darkened to the inky color for which the wine is known. Though its formidable tannic structure will withstand generous aging in new oak, too much barrel aging can overpower some of Petit Verdot’s subtle, delicate nuance. A more restrained oak regimen more aptly reveals this underappreciated variety’s true depth.
