Petit Verdot

Meaning little green one” in French, Petit Verdot’s translation offers a clue to its relative obscurity. These vines produce small berries that ripen late, retaining a verdant color for a longer period than other grapes. They sometimes fail to mature at all. As a result, most winemakers opt for plumper, heartier alternatives like Cabernet Sauvignon. Yet there is an undeniable allure to Petit Verdot’s voluptuous profile that is revealed at the upper reaches of Moon Mountain Vineyard. Basking in daytime heat, our Petit Verdot develops the deep color and structure for which the little green one” is known.
